How to draw a cute Boba Tea – Easy Step by-step Tutorial

Bubble tea or Boba Tea is a sweetened drink made with milk, flavored tea, and bubbles – the bubbles are made of tapioca.

We will break it down into simple shapes so you can draw bubble tea easily.

Let’s start with the cup first.

I’m going to draw a U shape that’s very flattened at the base like this:

Draw a U shape

Simple, right?

Next, we’ll start drawing the cap of the cup. Start with a simple semi-circle like this.

Start drawing the top of the boba tea cup

Please note that I am drawing this bubble tea in a cartoon style.

If you’re looking for a book to teach you how to draw cute things in a kawaii style, there is no better book than this!

Next, I’m going to draw the rim of the cup.

Now, I’ll draw the dome of the cap.

With one quick curve, finish the cap of the bubble tea cup.

Complete the dome of the cup

Are you with me so far?

Okay, now we need to draw a hole at the top to insert a straw into our bubble tea. So, erase a small portion of the top of the cap.

And now, draw a U shape to show the hole at the top of the boba tea cup.

Draw a curve at the top of the bubble tea cup.

We’re making a boba tea kawaii drawing, so we need to draw a face on this cup. Skip this part if you don’t want a face on your cup!

I’m just going to draw 2 small eyes and a curve for the mouth in the middle of the cup.

Now, what good is our boba tea if we don’t draw the tapioca bubbles?

At the bottom of the cup, draw a few bubbles.

I’m quite happy with how this looks, but I am going to be using some bright colors, so I’ll color this outline a darker shade of brown (close to purple).

And we’ve learned how to draw bubble tea!

Now, we can color our bubble tea whatever color we want. I’m going to show you how to color this boba tea digitally.

If you are using Procreate or Photoshop to color this drawing, please refer to my post on how I color digitally.

You can use any medium like pens, markers, or paints if you’re doing this traditionally.

Remember, you can go in any color – red, pink, or orange. Let your creativity run wild.

I’m going to draw rose milk or raspberry bubble tea so I will go with a custard pink.

Start coloring the tea any color

And I will draw the bottom a darker shade of pink (almost purple) to add some snazz to our bubble tea.

Color the base of the cup a different color

Because this is a kawaii boba tea drawing, I will add 2 bright pink blush spots to the boba tea.

Add blush spots to the bubble tea

Next, I’ll add some froth on the top with a lighter shade of pink.

Add foam or cream to the top of the cup

And then I will go in with some more cream on top of the boba tea by using a light cream color.

Note how I’m varying the shapes to make it look more organic.

Add a different layer on top of the bubble tea

Last, it’s time to draw the straw!

I’m going to draw a bright lime green straw inside the cup.

And I will add some stripes to this straw.

Paint stripes on the straw

Next, I want to add some highlights to my cup. So, on a new layer, I will go in with a bright blue and draw over the edge.

Add highlights to the bubble tea

Next, I will adjust the blending mode of this layer to “Add” and change the opacity to 18% so I get something like this:

Change the blending mode of the layer and the opacity

Remember, you can color your boba tea any color you want! If I were to color a chocolate boba tea, it would look like this:

You can draw your bubble tea any color you want

Or, let’s say I wanted to color my boba tea in a nice raspberry color, then it would look like this:

Change the colors of the boba tea to get different boba tea drawings.

I could go for a caramel boba tea and then use light browns to make something like this:

Draw different kawaii bubble tea colors

Or I could just draw an avocado boba tea and use some greens like this:

The choice is yours and you can use any color you want to color your boba tea!
