But you can use any tool – a pen and paper or Copic markers or Photoshop because the drawing method remains the same.

How to draw a cute hamster – Easy Step by step instructions

Step 1: Drawing the head of the cute hamster

Let’s start with the face of the hamster.

Just start with a nice big circle. We are going to use this circle as a guide to draw the hamster’s head.

Draw a simple circle as a guide.

I’m drawing this hamster in a cartoon style. If you’re looking for a book to teach you how to draw cute hamsters and other animals in a kawaii style, there is no better book than this!

Next, I’m going to use the circle as a guide and draw part of the circle over the guide.

Draw part of the circle

Next, I’m going to draw a small bulge. This is the cheek of the cute hamster.

Draw the cheek of the cute hamster.

It’s okay if you take a while to draw this shape. It can be a little tricky. Redraw it as much as you like to get it to look how you want it to.

Next, I’m going to draw the little ears of the hamster.

The left ear will be smaller than the right because it’s behind the hamster’s head.

Draw the hamster ears.

Next, we’re going to draw the back of the hamster’s head. Use the circle as a guide but stray the line away a bit as you reach the end.

Draw the back of the hamster's head.

Now, we’ve finished drawing the head of the hamster. Let’s draw the body now!

Step 2: Drawing the body of the cute hamster

When drawing cute and kawaii animals, remember that the head is almost as big as the body.

Let’s start by drawing the tummy of the hamster. It’s going to be a simple “L” shape but very curved.

Draw the tummy of the hamster

Now, let’s draw the back of the hamster. Follow this simple curve shape as before and join the previous curve.

Draw the rest of the hamster's body.

The body is almost done. Just daw the arms and the legs now. They’re going to be very tiny “U” shapes.

Add the arms and the legs to the hamster

Now, add another small “C” shape to the bottom and that will be the tail of the cute hamster.

Draw kawaii characters and make stickers!
Add the small tail to the hamster

And finally, all that’s left is to draw the facial expressions.

I’m going to draw two small black dots for the eyes. And a U shape for the nose. Draw a small “w” shape underneath the nose to make the cute hamster’s mouth!

Add the facial expressions to the cute hamster mouth.

The cute hamster is nearly done! Now, we just have to color the hamster!

Step 3: Coloring the cute hamster!

I’m going to begin by coloring the hamster a simple off-white color. You can choose any color you want!

Color the hamster white.

And to add more definition and texture to this hamster, I’m going to color the hamster an orangish-brown in certain places – like the top of the head and a bit of the back.

Finally color the hamster a nice orangish brown.

Next, I’m going to add a light pink color to the ear, nose, and feet.

And we have a cute hamster drawing.

You can use your imagination or look at other references of hamsters on Google or even real-life hamsters to color your cute hamster drawing any color you want.

Let’s do one more just to have a little fun!

Here’s another variation of the same hamster with a different color!

You can go wild and color the hamster any color you want.

And voila! We’ve just learned how to draw a cute hamster!
