How to Draw a Kawaii Cow

I love drawing cute chibi animals.

These types of drawings are super cute to add to any notebook or planner and they also make great drawing projects for kids.

And I’ve been obsessed with drawing kawaii animals lately.

I’ve already done a tutorial on drawing a strawberry cow here.

In this post, I’m going to show you how to draw a kawaii cow step by step so that by the end of the tutorial, you’ll get something like this:

I am currently using an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil to create my digital art.

But you can use any tool – a pen and paper or color pencils or Copic markers or Photoshop because the drawing method remains the same.

How to draw a kawaii cow – Step by step for beginners

I always start with very easy shapes so that anybody of any age can draw this.

So, let’s start with the head of the cute kawaii cow.

We’ll draw a small curve like this – this is going to be the top of the head.

1 - draw a small semi circle

Next, we are going to draw the sides of the face – so follow the arrows below and draw the cow’s face.

2 - draw the curves of the cow's face

Next, we’ll draw the ears of the cow – so draw 2 shapes at the sides of it’s head like this.

3 - draw two ears

I know the lines are overlapping – I will erase them later.

Next, we’ll draw a small tuft of hair at the top of the cow’s head to give it that innocent baby look.

4 - draw a small fringe

To complete the head, draw 2 small eyes and the cow’s nose like this:

5 - draw the eyes and nose of the cute cow

We’re almost there.

Next, I’m going to draw 2 small horns near the cow’s fringe, right above the ears.

6 - draw two horns on the cow

Easy, isn’t it?

Erase all the overlapping lines so that you have a nice, clean cow’s head drawing.

7 - erase the overlapping lines

And we are done drawing the cow’s head.

Now, we need to draw its body.

So, we’ll start by drawing 1 leg first – I am going to draw a nice curve and this is going to be the hind leg.

8 - draw the behind

Next, we’ll draw the front two legs like this:

9 - add 2 more legs

And finally we’ll draw the hooves underneath the legs – to give the cow some definition.

10 - draw the hooves of the baby co

Lastly, you can add a little tail behind the cow like this:

11 - draw the tail

We’re done!

Let’s color our cute kawaii cow!

I’m going to start by coloring the cow a light cream color and adding some light brown spots.

12 - color the cow

Now, color the horns, and add blush spots on the cow’s face to give it a cute, kawaii look.

Remember, you can color your kawaii cow any color you want! I’m choosing brown in this drawing.

Learn how to create kawaii characters.

My old bud Ilaria (we’ve been friends on Instagram back when I had Instagram) created this course! I’ve watched her grow from 0 followers, and I’m so, so proud of her!

And believe it or not, there is not 1 single good online course about learning how to draw kawaii art and then making physical stickers on the internet. I’ve been looking for a course like this for a long, long time.

And it’s finally here!!!

You can create your own stickers and print them and sell them on Etsy or any space! She goes into detail about how to draw the characters.

This is by far one of the best courses I’ve taken that is so cute and so educational.

The course is in English, and it’s amazing!

What do you need?

A sketchbook, Photoshop, and a graphic tablet so that you can draw the kawaii characters. If you want to make stickers, you’ll need a printer and sticker sheets.

Even if you don’t want to make stickers and just draw kawaii characters, this course is perfect!

Sara teaches you how to draw anything in a nice kawaii style. I really love these kinds of courses because they’re so easy to learn and it’s very easy to get clients because this is a really relatable drawing style.

It is in Italian but it comes with subtitles and it’s really easy to follow.
