Drawing human anatomy is hard.
Especially when you’re trying to people from different angles.
But furries are a different challenge altogether.
It’s difficult because you require multiple references for animals and humans as you are combining both.
Furries do require some practice drawing.
And in this tutorial, I’m going to teach you how to draw a furry step by step.
I’ve chosen a 3/4th view because I feel it will be really easy to replicate.
Check out my other character drawing tutorials here.
It’s okay if you’re a beginner learning to draw anime or poses and you don’t quite know human anatomy – the steps are really easy to follow. This is what you will be learning to draw:
I will also teach you to color this.

Let’s begin.
How to Draw a Furry – (Step by Step) Easy guide for beginners
I’m going to start by drawing a very simple rough template. We always start drawing heads by drawing a rough circle first.
And then we’ll draw a cross-section so that we can draw the eyes and nose more accurately.
Now, let’s draw the head shape using the circle as a guide.
I’m also going to draw some fur around the cheeks and jawline.
Now, let’s start drawing the eyes, I’m also going to draw the eyebrows.
Next, we are going to fill in the eyes a little bit. I’ll draw the irises and the pupils.
Next, we are going to draw the snout – I’m going to fill in the nose and the mouth as well.
Pretty doable so far, right?
If you’re not getting it right, don’t worry – this does take some practice. And with time you will get better.
Next, we’ll draw the ears.
I’m pretty much done with the face.
Next, I’m going to draw the hair – I really love drawing hair.
I’m going to start with some simple bangs first.
And I’ll draw the rest of the hair too.
Next, we’ll erase all the rough and overlapping lines and clean up our drawing a bit.
We’re done with the sketch.
We’ve learned how to draw a furry!
Now, let’s color our furry.
I’m going to start by coloring the fur – I’ll darken the fur around the ears because my dog has darker ears too.
Next, using the bonobo brush, I’ll add some blush to the cheeks to give her face more definition and make her look more feminine.
Since a furry is a fantasy creature, we can break the rules a bit and make her look more exquisite.
Next, I’m going to color the furry’s hair – you can choose any color you want. But today, I’m going with pink.
Next, I’m going to add some purple highlights to the ends of her hair and then use the blending brush to blend all the colors in nicely.
Next, on a new layer, add some streaks to the hair. I used dark and light purple highlights and changed the blending mode of the layer to multiply for both. Make sure you vary the opacity and play around with the settings till you like what you get.
Drawing hair can be a little bit of a challenge, but I have an in-depth article on how to color digital art here that is more detailed. I also have a video on that page, so check it out!
Next, I’ going to add some color to the eyes – make sure the upper part of the iris is darker to add more depth.
Next, I’ll add some highlights to the eyes.
And we’re done!
You’ve just learned how to draw a furry step-by-step from scratch.
Congratulations!

It’s tricky to draw characters but it does get better with practice.
Here’s how I learned how to draw poses:
- Go to quickposes.com and practice drawing poses
- Take photos of yourself in different poses and use that as a drawing reference (one of the best ways to learn)
- Or look at stock photos online of people in poses so you can draw poses better.
Don’t worry if it doesn’t look the way you want it to in the beginning.
It does get better the more you practice drawing.
