It’s no surprise that I absolutely love drawing people – women in general.
And drawing people is so much fun.
However, when it comes to drawing clothes, it can be a little challenging because there are a lot of dynamics involved.
In this post, I’m going to teach you how to draw a hoodie in a step-by-step way so that you can draw clothes or people in clothes quite easily.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a child or an adult beginner who’s learning how to draw. The following steps are extremely easy to understand. As long as you follow the tutorial step by step, you should have no difficulty understanding it.
I will be teaching you how to draw a hoodie in several different ways – including how to draw a hoodie on a person.

I use an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil to create all my illustrations. But you can use any tool – a pen and paper or Photoshop because the drawing method remains the same.
I’m going to teach you how to draw a hoodie and how to draw a hoodie on a person from the front and the back.

How to draw a hoodie – (Step by Step) An easy guide for beginners
A hoodie is basically a sweatshirt with a hood.
Before anything else, let’s begin by drawing a simple hoodie – without a person in it. This is to understand how you can draw a hoodie without wrinkles.
First, draw two lines – these are the edges of the hoodie. The lines should not be perfect and be slightly curved inwards towards the bottom.
I’m teaching you how to draw this hoodie in a cartoon style. You can learn how to draw clothes by purchasing this book.
Now, let’s draw the sleeves. Draw two more lines at the side parallel to the lines we’ve just drawn – these are the shoulders and sleeves.
Now draw the pocket of the hoodie – it is an inverted plateau.
Next, we draw the ends of the sleeves and the hoodie just by completing the shapes – plain and simple!
Draw the neck of the hoodie now. A simple “V” shape will suffice. Remember, when drawing, draw simple shapes. That’s how we make the drawing simpler – by breaking it down into shapes.
I leave little gaps between the lines to make it look more realistic and rustic.
Now, we need to draw the hood of the hoodie. So draw a simple plateau shape at the top of the hoodie.
And let’s finish the hood by drawing the neck hole.
We can finish drawing the hoodie by drawing 2 simple drawing strings and then drawing some folds on the ends of the hoodie.
This gives our hoodie a very nice, finished look! And now, we can color the hoodie any color we want. I’m going to go for a lovely, pastel pink.
1. How to draw a hoodie with the hood down
It’s very easy to draw a simple cartoon hoodie.
Since it’s flat on a surface, it’s only a matter of drawing straight lines.
But drawing clothes on a person gets slightly tricky because now we need to draw folds in the clothing. If you follow this tutorial step by step, you’ll be able to draw a hoodie on a person with the hood down really quickly!
Let’s begin by drawing a simple cartoon head first.
We are learning how to draw a hoodie on a girl here, so I’m going to draw a woman’s body under the hoodie. Let’s draw a delicate, slim neck and the “V” neckline of the hoodie.
Now, the hood is not on the person here. So, I’m going to draw the hood of the hoodie on her shoulders.
Keep the lines lumpy because the hood is thick, and there are many layers on her.
Now, let’s complete the hood of the hoodie.
Remember to keep your lines loose and flowy. This will make your drawing look more natural and realistic.
Now, let’s draw the body of the hoodie. The hoodie is on the girl, so remember to account for that! I’m also one sleeve partly to give you an idea of what I’m drawing.
The hoodie lines curve inwards toward the end, just like we drew that before.
Now, draw the end of the hoodie. Keep the lines loose. Nothing is stiff or straight; remember that.
Now, draw the other sleeve as well. Keep the lines loose and “S” shaped. The trick to drawing clothes on a character is to keep the lines moving downwards toward gravity but keeping it long and flowy.
And once that’s done, let’s draw the ends of the sleeves and the hoodie. Remember, these are usually tight, so it’s okay to use straighter lines.
Let’s draw the hands. The hoodie is long and covers the entire length of the arms of the girl. So, the hands are barely visible.
And finally, let’s color the hoodie. I’m using the same pastel pink shade I used earlier. You can use any color for the hoodie on this girl.
And voila! We’ve learned how to draw a hoodie with the hood down step by step!
2. How to draw a hoodie on a person
Okay, we’ve learned how to draw a hoodie on a person (with the hood down).
Let’s learn how to draw a hoodie on a girl with the hood up!
If you’re having difficulty drawing head shapes, pick up these great character builder brushes from Procreate.
I’m going to use the same illustration as before but lighten it because I’m going to draw the hood on the person!
You can use the previous drawing, or you can draw the girl again if you want to draw the hoodie on a girl from scratch.
Okay, let’s begin the hood on the girl. Remember to make the line slightly wonky to induce a more natural look to the hoodie and your drawing!
Remember to keep the hood loose and broader towards the shoulders. Now, let’s draw the outside fabric of the hoodie.
Now, I’m going to attach the hood to the hoodie. Remember to keep gaps in the lines to make it look more natural. I’m also going to draw the drawstrings to add more texture.
Now, erase all the overlapping lines. For instance, the hair outside the hoodie and the lines inside the hood, and we’ll have the final drawing with the hoodie on the girl.
Now, let’s color the illustration. Remember, you can color the drawing any color you want!
And voila! We’ve learned how to draw a hoodie on a girl with the hood on!
3. How to draw a hoodie (side view)
Okay, drawing a side view is somewhat tricky, but nothing we can’t learn!
Let’s first draw a guideline – starting with a circle and a simple cross in the center to help us draw the head in the side view.
Now draw the head of the girl.
Remember, the eye and the ear are on the circumference of the circle. The nose begins at the circle as well, but the lower portion of the jaw is outward since I am drawing a cartoon character!
Then we draw the neck of the character and the front hair of the character. Remember that the neck is just beneath the ears.
Now, draw the sleeve of the hoodie. Remember that the arm of the person is behind the front of the neck. Draw loose lines when drawing the sleeves. Hoodies always flow on the person.
Now, I’m going to make the illustration light before drawing the hood so you can see how I’m drawing the hood on the hoodie.
I will use simple shapes and draw the fabric over the person’s head. It folds downwards toward the neck.
And now, I’m going to draw the rest of the hoodie attached to the sleeve and the hood. Again, remember to draw long flowing lines. Remember, the hoodie is on the girl, so we have to follow the basic shape of her body!
I’m going to erase the overlapping lines and draw the remaining portion of her hair as well!
And now, we’re just going to color the whole illustration, and voila!
We have learned how to draw a hoodie side view!
4. How to draw a hoodie from the back
In all these tutorials, we learned how to draw a hoodie on a person from different angles.
But when we’re learning how to draw a hoodie from the back, the person’s head is not visible.
So, we need to keep a note of this.
Let’s begin by drawing the simple shape of the hoodie – the body of the hoodie.
Remember to keep your lines loose and curvy because the hoodie is on the girl at this point.
Now, let’s draw the bottom of the hoodie – the band around the waist.
Now, follow by drawing the sleeves around the body of the hoodie. Remember to keep your lines loose and limber.
Now, let’s draw the neckline at the back. Remember, this line will become the bottom of the hood.
Now, we need to draw the hood. Let’s draw a simple inverted “U” shape.
I’m going to draw some rough lines on the back of the hoodie to indicate depth.
And now, let’s color the hoodie.
And tada! We’ve learned how to draw a hoodie from the back! You can also complement this illustration with jeans and arms!
5. How to draw an oversized hoodie
Okay, similar to drawing a hoodie on a person, we are going to exaggerate the size of it to give the girl a cute, homey look!
In most anime, girls are drawn with oversized hoodies. The girl’s body obviously remains the same proportions; you just have to increase the size of the hoodie and make it bulkier!
Let’s learn how to draw an oversized hoodie!
We’ll start by drawing a head and a neck.
Now, we’ll draw the shoulders and the oversized sleeves! Remember to draw small bulgy shapes towards the end of the sleeves.
This makes it look bulky and gathering towards the wrists.
Now, let’s draw the hood. The hood rests on the shoulders and is slightly lumpy on the shoulders.
Now, I will draw the rest of the sleeves; just draw small bulgy lines as you go downward to indicate how loose and oversized the sweatshirt is.
Now, I will complete the rest of the hoodie by drawing the ends.
You can add more definition to the hoodie by drawing the sleeve lines towards the end of the shoulders. This indicates an oversized outfit! Even the hands are barely visible.
Next, let’s color the illustration.
And voila, we’ve learned how to draw an oversized hoodie! Doesn’t she look adorable now?
