How to Draw a Kawaii Dragon - Draw Cartoon Style!

I love drawing cute chibi animals.

These types of drawings are super cute to add to any notebook or planner and they also make great drawing projects for kids.

I’ve already done a lot of tutorials on drawing cute and kawaii animals that you can check out here.

In this post, I’m going to show you how to draw a kawaii dragon step by step so that by the end of the tutorial, you’ll get something like this:

I am currently using an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil to create my digital art.

But you can use any tool – a pen and paper or color pencils or Copic markers or Photoshop because the drawing method remains the same.

How to Draw a Kawaii Dragon – Step by Step for beginners

I always start with simple shapes so that anyone can do this drawing.

Let’s start with the dragon’s head: we’ll draw a circle with a small dent on one side – this is going to be the dragon’s head – take your time drawing the shape.

Next, I will draw the dragon’s face – I’m going to draw 2 eyes, a small mouth and 2 pointy teeth underneath the dragon’s mouth:

Next, we are going to draw the horns on the dragon – on either side of the dragon’s face.

And we’ll also draw the dragon’s scales in the middle of the face – like this.

Don’t worry if the lines overlap – you can always erase it.

Erase any overlapping lines and draw the front legs of the kawaii dragon – don’t forget to draw the claws.

Now, we are going to draw the dragon’s back legs.

And we’re nearly done:

Let’s draw the tummy and the tail now:

Don’t forget to draw the scales on the dragon’s tail.

Next – draw 2 wings on either side – this is going to complete our cute kawaii dragon!

Next, I’m going to color the dragon.

You can color your dragon any color you want.

But I’m going to color him purple.

Next, add pink-colored blush spots on the dragon to add that extra cuteness.

Draw kawaii characters and make stickers!

A sketchbook, Photoshop, and a graphic tablet so that you can draw the kawaii characters. If you want to make stickers, you’ll need a printer and sticker sheets.
