I love drawing cute kawaii food and animals.
Alpacas are one of the easiest animals to draw because of their curly wool and extremely simple shapes.
I’ve already done a lot of tutorials on drawing cute and kawaii animals, like this kawaii dog tutorial and this kawaii cat tutorial.
In this post, I will show you how to draw a cute alpaca in this step-by-step guide so that you can easily make a cute alpaca drawing.
You can check out my other kawaii tutorials here.
Whether you’re a kid or an adult learning how to draw, these steps are extremely easy to follow; let’s get started!
I’ll even show you how to color the alpaca, here’s what you’ll learn to draw:

I am currently using an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil to create my digital art.
But you can use any tool – a pen and paper or color pencils or Copic markers or Photoshop because the drawing method remains the same.
How to draw an alpaca – Easy Step by step instructions
I’m going to start with a rough template before drawing the alpaca.
So, if you’re drawing this traditionally, please start with a rough sketch using a pencil, and then after the template is drawn, you can draw over that with pencils, markers or crayons.
Let’s begin with the rough sketch. I’m going to draw an inverted “U” shape.
This will be the alpaca’s head.
Next, I’m going to draw the front legs of the alpaca. Just draw an elongated “w” shape with one end longer like this:
Now, it’s time to draw the back of the alpaca, just draw a simple shape like this that connects with the rest of the body – don’t forget to draw the 3rd leg.
The 4th leg is behind the alpaca and can’t be seen.
Take your time to draw this shape – it needn’t be perfect because this is simply our rough sketch.
Next, we are going to draw 2 small ears on the head and draw a small face. Make sure the face is closer to the left side since the alpaca is facing left.
Now, we’ve finished our rough sketch.
Let’s move on to the actual drawing.
I’m going to draw over our rough sketch by drawing little fluffy lines on the template.
Take your time with this – we are imitating the wool on the alpaca.
Next, draw the ears of the alpaca, don’t forget to draw the inner portion of the ears.
Easy, isn’t it?
Now, continue on the same path by drawing wavy, bumpy lines along the whole body.
Imagine you’re drawing a fluffy cloud.
Once you’re done with the whole outline, draw a small fluffy ball at the back of the alpaca – this will be its tail.
Now, it’s time to draw the feet. Just draw small “u” shaped lines at the bottom of the legs and this will be the alpaca’s feet.
Once we’re done with the body, we can move on to the face.
Let’s start by drawing one side of the face.
We’re going to add little bumpy lines on the other side and the top to show that the wool is overlapping the face.
Now, comes the easy part, just draw the eyes and the nose.
Drawing kawaii animals means that you can draw kawaii faces very easily because this type of drawing uses very simple shapes.
Next, you can start coloring the alpaca any color you want.
I’m going to color him blue because I honestly love blue. I’m even changing the outline to make the alpaca stand out.
You can add shadows to the edges in cloud shapes to make your alpaca look more organic.
Next, you can color the face and the ears a light peach color.
Next, I’m going to add blush spots and color the feet a baby pink.
And we’re finished!
Remember, you can color your alpaca any color you want. You can color it pink like this:
Or you can color it cream like this:
Tadaa! We’ve just learned how to draw and color a cute alpaca.
