How to Draw a Black Cat - Draw Cartoon Style!

I love drawing cute chibi animals.

These types of drawings are super cute to add to any notebook or planner and they also make great drawing projects for kids.

In this post, I’m going to show you how to draw a black cat step by step so that by the end of the tutorial, you’ll get something like this:

I am currently using an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil to create my digital art.

But you can use any tool – a pen and paper or color pencils or Copic markers or Photoshop because the drawing method remains the same.

How to Draw a black cat – Step by Step for beginners

I always start with simple shapes so that anyone can do this drawing.

Let’s start with the top of the cat’s head. We’ll draw a line like this and two small ears.

Please note that these are triangles but slightly rounded, so they look cuter.

If you nail the cat’s ears, I promise you’ll get the cutest cat face.

Next, I will draw the cat’s head – so I’m going to draw a curve like this:

Next, we are going to draw the cat’s face – draw 2 eyes, a nose and little whiskers on either side of the face.

Next, we’ll draw the cat’s body – so draw a large “W” shape like this:

Now, we are going to draw the cat’s bottom and his other leg.

And we’re nearly done:

Let’s draw the tail now:

Next, I’m going to add another leg that’s folded and I’ll also color him black.

Fun fact: never color your cat black – always use a dark blue or dark violet (purple) – because black is never actually black (it’s always a darker variant of these 2 colors)

So, although your cat looks black – it’s actually dark purple!

Next, add pink colored ears and 2 blush spots to give it that absolute kawaii cute look!
