How to draw a cute dinosaur - Draw Cartoon Style!

I love drawing cute kawaii animals!

These make perfect drawing projects for kids because they can stick these drawings on refrigerators or in their notebooks.

I’ve already done a lot of tutorials on drawing cute and kawaii animals like this kawaii dog tutorial and this kawaii cat tutorial.

In this post, I’m going to show you how to draw a cute dinosaur in this step-by-step guide so that you can make a cute dinosaur drawing easily!

Whether you’re a kid or an adult learning how to draw, these steps are extremely easy to follow, let’s get started!

I’ll even show you how to color the dinosaur – but you can choose any colors you like!

I am currently using an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil to create my digital art.

But you can use any tool – a pen and paper or color pencils or Copic markers or Photoshop because the drawing method remains the same.

How to draw a cute dinosaur – Easy Step by step instructions

Let’s start with the head of the dinosaur.

We are going to draw an egg shape for the head of the dinosaur.

It will be slightly flat on one side and curved on the other side like this:

Next, I’m going to draw another round shape to make drawing the dinosaur’s body easy like this:

Next, I’ll draw a huge curve along the round shape – this will be the dinosaur’s tummy.

Take your time to draw this dinosaur – there is no rush.

You can even print this and draw over the drawing. Next, we are going to draw the leg.

The trick to drawing cute animals is to use a lot of circles and round curves – that’s what adds the cute factor to these animals.

Next, I’m going to draw the tail of the dinosaur.

From under the leg of the dinosaur, draw a long elongated line like this under the dinosaur.

Now, it’s time to draw the back of the dinosaur.

From behind the head, draw a long curve that goes towards the tail and complete drawing the end of the tail by dragging the line downwards.

Easy, isn’t it?

Next, we’ll draw the dinosaur’s arm.

Dinosaurs have very small arms so just draw a small V shape in the middle of the dinosaur’s body.

And now, we’ll draw the face of the dinosaur – I’m just going to draw a small round circle in the middle of the head to indicate the dinosaur’s eye.

Next, draw small round scales on the dinosaur’s body. Draw little semi-circles starting from the head and ending at the tail.

You can even make them pointy, but I prefer drawing round scales because I find that they are so much cuter.

Draw kawaii characters and make stickers!

And we’re done drawing the dinosaur!

Now, it’s time to color this cute dinosaur!

You can color this dinosaur any color you want but for this tutorial, I am going to color him green!

I’m going to use a bright green for his body and head.

Next, I’ll color the scales. You can color the scales a different color or use multiple colors for the scales. Let your creativity take over!

Next, I’ll draw a small cute blush spot on his cheek to make the dinosaur look cute!

And lastly with a light yellow (almost cream color), I will color the dinosaur’s tummy and foot to add more detail to this dinosaur.

And we’re finished!

Remember, you can color the dinosaur any color you want.

Here’s another variation of the same dinosaur with a different color – I used blue this time!

You can color the dinosaur an alternate color and make it blue or pink!

And voila!

We’ve just learned how to draw and color a cute dinosaur drawing.
