How to Draw a Cat with a Fluffy Tail (Easy Beginner Guide)

I love drawing cute chibi animals.

These types of drawings are super cute to add to any notebook or planner and they also make great drawing projects for kids.

I’ve already done a lot of tutorials on drawing cute and kawaii animals that you can check out here.

In this post, I’m going to show you how to draw a cat with a fluffy tail step by step so that by the end of the tutorial, you’ll get something like this:

I am currently using an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil to create my digital art.

But you can use any tool – a pen and paper or color pencils or Copic markers or Photoshop because the drawing method remains the same.

How to draw a cat with a fluffy tail – Step by step for beginners

I always start with simple shapes so that anyone can do this drawing.

Let’s start with the top of the cat’s head. We’ll draw a line like this:

Next, I will draw the cat’s ears.

If you nail the cat’s ears, you’ll get the cutest cat face, I promise.

Next, we are going to draw the cat’s head. The cat is turning left so the left side is a little more curved since we are drawing the cat in a 3/4th view.

Next, we’ll draw the fur along the neck and drag the line toward the stomach.

Now, we are going to draw the cat’s front leg, don’t forget to draw that extra fur at the back to make the cat look all fluffy.

Next, we’ll draw the cat’s paws. Now the trick to drawing the cat’s paws is to start from the back, and draw a small curve like this:

Then, draw another curve in front of the previous one.

And repeat for the last toe bean. And you’ve completed the cat’s paw.

We are going to repeat this for the second front leg. We’ll start with the last toe bean.

And draw 2 more and complete the cat’s other front leg.

Now, we are going to draw the cat’s behind.

Draw one large sweeping curve like this to draw the cat’s behind. The cat’s behind should align with the cat’s front paws since the cat is sitting.

Now, we will draw the cat’s back leg. I’m going to draw all the little toes like so:

Then, I’ll draw the cat’s back leg all curled up like this:

Now, we’ll draw the cat’s face.

I’m going to draw 2 small round eyes and a little mouth like this.

To make the cat look very kawaii, draw the mouth on the same level as the eyes – it gives the cat a SUPER cute look!

Next, add some whiskers.

Now, to draw the cat’s fluffy tail, I’m going to draw a big tail like this. Take your time with it, it needn’t be perfect. Make the tail as big as you want.

I’m going to add some fur details. So, erase 2 sections of the cat’s tail like this:

Then draw some fur on the cat’s tail like so:

And I’m going to add some fur lines on the cat’s tail like this:

Next, I’m going to color the cat a cute cream color and add 2 pink blush spots on the cat.

Draw kawaii characters and make stickers!
