How to Draw a Frog on a Lily Pad

I love drawing cute chibi animals.

These types of drawings are super cute to add to any notebook or planner and they also make great drawing projects for kids.

I’ve already done a lot of tutorials on drawing cute and kawaii animals that you can check out here.

In this post, I’m going to show you how to draw a frog on a lilypad step by step so that by the end of the tutorial, you’ll get something like this:

I am currently using an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil to create my digital art.

But you can use any tool – a pen and paper or color pencils or Copic markers or Photoshop because the drawing method remains the same.

How to draw a frog on the lily pad – Step by step for beginners

I always start with simple shapes.

I’m going to draw a simple curve like this:

Next, draw 2 curves at the side of the frog’s head.

2 - draw 2 more curves on the frog's face

Next, we’ll draw the frog’s body.

We are going to draw a large curve.

3 - draw the frog's body

Next, we are going to draw the frog’s eyes. We’ll draw 2 small eyes in the upper portion and draw a small smile in the middle of the eyes.

4 - draw eyes and a mouth

We are keeping it simple – let’s draw the legs next.

I’m going to draw 4 small protrusions like this on the frogs.

5 - draw the frog's legs

Next, we’ll erase the frog’s body near the front legs.

6 - erase the overlapping lines

Easy, isn’t it?

Now, let’s draw the lily pad. We are going to draw a nice oval shape around the frog, like this first:

7 - draw the lily pad

Then we will erase a small portion of the lily pad

8 - draw the cut in the lily pad

Next, we’ll draw 2 lines moving toward the frog, like this because lily pads have this characteristic leaf.

9 - draw the rest of the lily pad

And we are done!

We finished drawing a frog on a lily pad.

We can now start coloring the cute frog.

I’m going to go with the regular green color because I love green but you can color your frog any color you want!

10 - color the frog

Next, we are going to color the belly of the frog with a pale yellowish-green and I’m going to add blush spots on the frog.

Draw kawaii characters and make stickers!
11 - draw blush spots on the frog

Lastly, we’ll color the lily pad a darker green.

12 - color the lily pad

Congratulations!

Learn how to create kawaii characters.

My old bud Ilaria (we’ve been friends on Instagram back when I had Instagram) created this course! I’ve watched her grow from 0 followers, and I’m so, so proud of her!

And believe it or not, there is not 1 single good online course about learning how to draw kawaii art and then making physical stickers on the internet. I’ve been looking for a course like this for a long, long time.

And it’s finally here!!!

You can create your own stickers and print them and sell them on Etsy or any space! She goes into detail about how to draw the characters.

This is by far one of the best courses I’ve taken that is so cute and so educational.

The course is in English, and it’s amazing!

What do you need?

A sketchbook, Photoshop, and a graphic tablet so that you can draw the kawaii characters. If you want to make stickers, you’ll need a printer and sticker sheets.

Even if you don’t want to make stickers and just draw kawaii characters, this course is perfect!
