I am currently using an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil to create my digital art.

But you can use any tool – a pen and paper or color pencils or Copic markers or Photoshop because the drawing method remains the same.

How to draw a kawaii otter – Step by step for beginners

I always start with very easy shapes so that anybody of any age can draw this.

So, let’s start by drawing a simple curve like this first – this will be the otter’s head.

1 - draw a curve

Next, we are going to draw the ears – draw 2 small C shapes at the sides of the curve like this:

2 - draw the otter's ears

Next, we’ll draw the cute otter’s cheeks – so I’m going to draw 2 bell-shaped curves underneath the ears like this:

3 - draw the otter's face

It’s okay if it’s not perfect – no otter has a perfectly symmetrical face.

Next, we’ll draw the eyes and nose of the otter. I’m going to draw 2 oval shapes for the eyes and a small nose between the eyes like this:

4 - draw the nose and mouth

Next, we’ll draw the muzzle of the otter.

So, I’m going to draw a small cute w shape underneath the nose.

5 - draw the muzzle

Next, we are going to draw the body. Just draw a nice, round body underneath the otter’s head like this.

6 - draw the body of the otter

Easy, isn’t it?

Next, draw a long tail underneath the body – otters have nice, long tails to help them swim.

7 - draw the otter's tail

And then we’ll draw it’s arms and legs – just draw the shapes I’ve drawn below and you’ll have a nice, cute otter drawing.

8 - draw the arms and legs

Next, we’ll color the otter a chocolate brown. You can color your otter any color you want.

9 - color the otter

Now, using a cream color, I’ll draw this pattern on the otter.

10 - add the color

And, I’ll fill in the shape with a cream color. Finally, I’ll color the ears and feet pink and add 2 blush spots on its cheeks to make the otter look super cute!

11 - add all the details

We’re done!

We’ve just finished drawing our cute otter.

Learn how to create kawaii characters.

My old bud Ilaria (we’ve been friends on Instagram back when I had Instagram) created this course! I’ve watched her grow from 0 followers, and I’m so, so proud of her!

And believe it or not, there is not 1 single good online course about learning how to draw kawaii art and then making physical stickers on the internet. I’ve been looking for a course like this for a long, long time.

And it’s finally here!!!

You can create your own stickers and print them and sell them on Etsy or any space! She goes into detail about how to draw the characters.

This is by far one of the best courses I’ve taken that is so cute and so educational.

The course is in English, and it’s amazing!

What do you need?

A sketchbook, Photoshop, and a graphic tablet so that you can draw the kawaii characters. If you want to make stickers, you’ll need a printer and sticker sheets.

Even if you don’t want to make stickers and just draw kawaii characters, this course is perfect!

And if you are really keen on improving your drawings or you want to create cute kawaii animals and kawaii people, check out this second course by Sara.

Sara teaches you how to draw anything in a nice kawaii style. I really love these kinds of courses because they’re so easy to learn and it’s very easy to get clients because this is a really relatable drawing style.

It is in Italian but it comes with subtitles and it’s really easy to follow.
