How to Draw a Cute Giraffe

I love drawing cute kawaii animals.

These types of drawings are super cute to add to any notebook or planner and they also make great drawing projects for kids.

And I’ve been obsessed with drawing kawaii animals lately.

It’s so much more fun than drawing realistic animals.

I’ve already done multiple kawaii tutorials here. So, check it out if you haven’t already.

In this post, I’m going to show you how to draw a cute giraffe step by step so that by the end of the tutorial, you’ll get something like this:

12 - add blush spot to the cheek

I am currently using an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil to create my digital art.

But you can use any tool – a pen and paper or color pencils or Copic markers or Photoshop because the drawing method remains the same.

How to draw a cute giraffe – Step by step for beginners

I always start with very easy shapes so that anybody of any age can draw this.

So, let’s start by drawing the cute giraffe’s head. It’s almost like a C shape – this might take some time – but if you get this shape right, I promise the rest of the giraffe is super easy!

1 - draw the giraffe's face

Next, we are going to draw the giraffe’s eye and it’s small muzzle like this:

2 - draw the eye and nose of the giraffe

Next, add 2 small ears to the giraffe’s head like this:

3 - draw the ears of the giraffe

Now, add the 2 giraffe’s horns on the top of it’s head (Fun Fact: they are called ossicones by the way):

4 - draw the antennae

Now, it’s time to draw the neck, don’t make it too long. Remember, kawaii animals are all small, cute and shrunken. So, draw a small line like this:

5 - draw the long neck

Next, I’ll draw the front part of the neck and draw the front two legs – just draw an extended “W” shape and you’ll get something like this:

6 - draw the front feet

Now, draw the tummy and the back leg of the cute giraffe.

7 - draw the back leg

Complete the giraffe by drawing it’s bottom and back.

8 - draw the back

Don’t forget to draw its teeny tiny tail and the other leg behind the back leg.

9 - draw the back leg and the tail

We’re done drawing the cute giraffe!

Let’s color this little guy now.

I’m going to use light yellow for its whole body.

10 - color the giraffe yellow

Next, add the brown spots and color the tips of the giraffe brown.

I’m also going to color its ears and muzzle a light pink.

11 - add details

Finally, add a small pink blush spot on its cheek – to give it that cute giraffe look! You can do this with a pink marker if you’re drawing this traditionally. For Procreate (App), I use the bonobo brush to do this.

We’re done!

Learn how to create kawaii characters.

My old bud Ilaria (we’ve been friends on Instagram back when I had Instagram) created this course! I’ve watched her grow from 0 followers, and I’m so, so proud of her!

And believe it or not, there is not 1 single good online course about learning how to draw kawaii art and then making physical stickers on the internet. I’ve been looking for a course like this for a long, long time.

And it’s finally here!!!

You can create your own stickers and print them and sell them on Etsy or any space! She goes into detail about how to draw the characters.

This is by far one of the best courses I’ve taken that is so cute and so educational.

The course is in English, and it’s amazing!

What do you need?

A sketchbook, Photoshop, and a graphic tablet so that you can draw the kawaii characters. If you want to make stickers, you’ll need a printer and sticker sheets.

Even if you don’t want to make stickers and just draw kawaii characters, this course is perfect!

And if you are really keen on improving your drawings or you want to create cute kawaii animals and kawaii people, check out this second course by Sara.

Sara teaches you how to draw anything in a nice kawaii style. I really love these kinds of courses because they’re so easy to learn and it’s very easy to get clients because this is a really relatable drawing style.

It is in Italian but it comes with subtitles and it’s really easy to follow.
