How to Draw a Slice of Carrot Cake

If you’ve been reading my website for a while, you’ll discover I love food and drawing food even more.

I have recently developed an addiction to drawing food in a kawaii style.

I love drawing sweet things and then adding little kawaii faces to them – these make cute stickers!

It’s also motivated me to open a sticker shop – details will be out soon!

In this post, I will teach you to draw a cute slice of carrot cake.

This is what you’ll learn by the end of this post:

How to draw a slice of carrot cake step by step – Easy tutorial for beginners

Please note that I’m using Procreate and drawing this digitally. You can even use Clip Art Studio as it is a beautiful software that most digital artists use, including Manga and Anime artists.

I talk more about how I got started with digital art here.

You can use any tool you want to make this drawing because the process basically is the same. You can use color pencils, pens or crayons – it’s completely your choice!

Let’s begin.

Step 1: Draw a simple cake slice first

Let’s just start by drawing a simple cake slice first.

We’ll start by drawing a simple and plain rectangle.

You don’t even need to use a ruler or make the rectangle perfect. Just draw a rectangle. This will give your carrot cake slice a very organic look.

Draw a rectangle

Next, we’ll erase two spaces on top of the rectangle like this.

Erase two corners of the rectangle

Now, we need to draw the cake slice.

So, from the left side of the rectangle, draw a line raised upwards like this. You can stop drawing the line when you’ve reached the center of the rectangle.

Draw a line at an angle

Now, we need to finish drawing the cake slice; simply draw a curved line like this meeting the other side of the rectangle.

Draw a curve at the end of the cake

And voila!

You’ve just learned how to draw a cake slice. You can even make this a cheesecake drawing.

But for this tutorial, we need to make this a slice of carrot cake.

So let’s move forward.

Step 2: Add details to the carrot cake slice

Now, I want to add some layers to this carrot cake slice.

So, I’m going to draw 2 L shapes – one from the top of the rectangle and the other from the bottom. Just follow the green arrows, and you’ll understand how to do this.

Take your time drawing this cake slice.

Draw the layers in the carrot cake

Once you’re done, you can now draw a cute carrot on top of the cake.

It’s just a simple triangle and a small squiggly line for the carrot head.

When people bake carrot cakes, they usually add little carrots to the cake made of sugar frosting.

Draw the carrot at the top of the cake

Now, we’ve completed drawing the slice of carrot cake. You can add a small round plate underneath the carrot cake slice.

This will really complete your drawing.

You can leave it like this or go one step further and make your carrot cake a little cuter.

I like adding kawaii faces to my food drawings so I will add 2 small round eyes and a “U” shaped mouth in the center of the carrot cake slice just like this:

And now, we’ve finished outlining the carrot cake!

You can color it any which way you want or you can follow my steps below.

Step 3: Color the slice of carrot cake

I’m going to color the frosting of the carrot cake a light cream color and the cake a camel brown color.

Carrot cakes are usually semi-brown so make sure you use a light to medium brown color when coloring your carrot cake.

Color the carrot cake

You can color the plate underneath the carrot cake any color you want, but for this tutorial, I will use blue because I love blue so much!

And lastly, color the carrot on top of the cake!

I will go with a bright orange and green to make the carrot cake slice pop with color!

Color the carrot

You can add some details like blush spots under the eyes. I will also add some highlights. If you’re doing this digitally, check out this post to see how I color digital art.

And voila! We’ve learned how to draw and color a carrot cake slice!
